Physics Validation
As we extend the simulator, every major physics capability ships with a short, reproducible validation report — the physics, the test setup, and the measured numbers against OPM Flow or an analytic reference. Reports are organized by simulator type.

Black-Oil
ActiveThree-phase black-oil (oil / water / gas) with dissolved gas (Rs), vaporized oil (Rv), and a fully-implicit formulation. The current production simulator.
Dual-Porosity Matrix–Fracture Transfer
Naturally-fractured reservoirs: pressure, gravity-drainage, and capillary-imbibition transfer between the matrix and fracture continua — all fully implicit.
✓ Mass conserved to <0.02%; capillary imbibition to equilibrium with 0 rejected steps
Multi-Segment Wells (MSW)
Wellbore modeled as a segment tree with hydrostatic + Darcy–Weisbach friction; per-segment flowing pressure drives each perforation.
✓ FOPR/FPR/water-cut within ~1–3% of OPM across a 0.05–0.40 m tubing sweep
VFP / THP Well Control
5-D production and 2-D injection VFP tables; THP-controlled wells solve the BHP↔rate fixed point, plus WCONHIST history producers.
✓ WBHP/IBHP/FPR to ~1% of OPM; WCONHIST ORAT & RESV rates exact
Analytic & Numerical Aquifers
Fetkovich, Carter-Tracy, and numerical (AQUNUM/AQUCON) aquifers with implicit Jacobian coupling.
✓ Aquifer & field pressure to ~1% of OPM across all three models
Saturation Functions & Hysteresis
Family-1 and family-2 tables, Land/Carlson/Killough gas trapping, and Leverett-J scaling.
✓ Carlson gas trapping within ~1% of OPM (gas produced / gas in place)
Geothermal
PlannedSingle- and two-phase water/steam energy transport for geothermal reservoirs. On the roadmap.
Compositional
PlannedMulti-component EOS compositional flow for gas-condensate and volatile-oil systems. On the roadmap.
